House in the Tropical Rain Forest

I am sure this is a house we all would like to live in. The setting for these images is at the foot of “El Yunque”, Caribbean National Forest in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. I wanted to draw a stunning hallway in the style of Japanese architect Tadao Ando, exposed concrete, minimalist. A style I have always admired. Later, I tried a twilight image. I used blue, red, green and violet lighting but it just felt too gimmicky for a minimalist approach. The warm yellow light worked the best. After it was finished, I was curious to see what’s at the end of the hallway. I closed my eyes, used my imagination, “What would I like to see?”… a high balcony overlooking the misty rain forest. FYI, the chairs are a Tadao Ando design called “The Dream Chair”, manufactured by Carl Hansen & Søn A/S in Denmark. Later, I focused my attention “behind us”, the house. I love and wanted a sense of heavy, strong, monolithic construction in contrast with the fragility of a lot of glass. Here, I used my professional experience when I worked as glazing contractor and designed the frameless entrance, windows and railings.
